Coutorture BlogTalkRadio Seminar: Interacting With PR

As part of Coutorture’s BlogTalkRadio Seminar series, we were joined this past Sunday by Community Partner Crosby, author of PR Couture, to discuss how best to interact with PR professionals.

Crosby’s experience comes from discovering public relations classes while completing her graduate studies. She then went on to write her master’s thesis on fashion pr, and went on to work in pr in several different facets.

As fashion blogging evolved and became more mainstream, public relations professionals remained unsure as to how to interact with blogs and bloggers.  Blogs bring many advantages to the pr industry, including shorter lead times, more personal interaction with audiences, and honest reviews. Crosby makes a very good point, stating “Pretending that a blogger is not a person or that a pr is not a real person tends to create a lot of confusion.  At the end of the day, it’s about figuring out how to create relationships online.

Tips for making your blog more pr friendly:

1: Make your pr preferred email more visible

2: A detailed About Me page – what you’d like to cover, what you won’t, and a bit about you as the author.

3: Communicate with the pr person, even if you didn’t like the product. Just because you didn’t like the product, doesn’t mean that someone else won’t.

4: Don’t be afraid to approach a brand’s representation.  The worst they can do is say no.
