One of the projects that Coutorture has engaged in since the Pierce Mattie Public Relations Roundtable is a Public Relations Badge program. The idea behind it is that if bloggers have a transparent policy stated on their blog then we can avoid any unpleasantness or breaches of etiquette because one party or another did not know the appropriate way to approach a blogger. Here are four possible badges to help public relations professionals understand how a blogger prefers to be treated.
Send the blogger an email introducing yourself and your client. Ask the blogger if they would be interested in more information before pitching any specific products or services.
Publicists are welcome to comment on this blog as long as they add relevant detail or opinion to a post.
Publicists are not welcome to contact the blogger on behalf of clients.
Publicists are welcome to comment on this blog as long as they add relevant detail or opinion to a post and disclose that they have a professional relationship with a company or any of its competitors.
Any blogger is welcome to take these little bits of code from our Coutorture Badges page. I very much encourage all bloggers to make take this small step towards a better relationship with public relations professions. And what you might ask is the policy on Almost Girl?
